Can you picture what $100 million would look like if you saw all that money in one place? That’s a lot of dollar bills.
Hino recently announced the company will be investing $100 million to build a new plant in West Virginia and we couldn’t be happier. Not only is this a massive investment in North America for Hino, it also means Hino will be producing two new classes of trucks. That’s right, Hino will soon be producing Class 7 and 8 commercial trucks. That is music to the ears of companies and truck drivers who have been yearning for Hino to start producing larger commercial trucks.
“In addition to producing our current winning line-up of trucks, we will start the production of new Class 7 and Class 8 trucks in 2019.” - Takashi Ono, Hino Motors Manufacturing U.S.A. President
The new plant will employ 250 people with the plan to have Class 7 and 8 Hino trucks ready for the 2019 model year. These new trucks will be produced alongside Hino’s incredibly popular line of class 4-7 commercial trucks. Not a lot is known about the new trucks yet, but it has been reported that the trucks will come with Hino’s AO9 9-litre engine producing 300-360 hp.
“These are truly exciting times for Hino ... Our growth and customer acceptance in the Class 4-7 market are enabling us to introduce wider variety of products.” - CEO of Hino North America, Yoshinori Noguchi
Classified as heavy trucks in the US—it varies by province in Canada—Class 7 and 8 commercial trucks are the workhorses for many major industries. Class 7 and 8 trucks are a common site towing big loads down the highway, on remote job sites in the oil fields, and at large construction sites downtown. Class 7 trucks have a weight limit ranging from 11,794–14,969 kg (26,001–33,000 lbs) and are popular platforms for large furniture trucks, dump trucks, and similar uses. Class 8 trucks have a weight limit of 14,969 kg+ (33,001 lbs) and are often used as platforms for heavy tow trucks, cement trucks, etc.
