Truck on the world

It’s no secret that North America is a big place with trucks crisscrossing, Canada, the US, and Mexico. Did you ever wonder, though, what some of the longest trucking routes in the world are? From North America to Europe, and even Asia, there are some truly impressive and grueling trucking routes around the globe.

Read along and compare your own common route to these daunting routes around the world.

Germany - China Trucking Route

Whether you’re driver of an 18-wheeler or a cab over delivery truck, you’ve probably driven some long distances, but not 8,000 km. There are reports of a German logistic company that has opened a regular trucking route that spans 8,000 km and goes through multiple countries, including Poland, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Russia. On average the trip takes 16-18 days to complete. To put that route into perspective, to drive from Vancouver to Halifax is just over 6,000 km.

Jordan Border - Baghdad Route

How long the route is, no one can be 100% sure because it runs through truly dangerous territory in the middle-east. As of a few short years ago truck drivers were braving this incredibly dangerous route that leads from the Jordan border to Baghdad in Iraq. At the height of tensions the 12-day journey cut right through ISIS claimed territory.

The Autonomous Journey

Trucks that drive themselves are happening. There are numerous companies developing commercial trucks that are driven using autonomous technology, and that tech has come a long way in a short period of time. Last year a convoy of autonomous commercial trucks travelled across Europe. While a few groups took the challenge, the longest route travelled was 2,000 km, travelling through Sweden, Denmark, Germany, and ending in the Netherlands.

Driving long distances comes hand-in-hand with driving commercial trucks. Whether you’re driving across the city or across the country, Somerville Hino is proud to help get you from Point ‘A’ to Point ‘B’.
