Nothing screams summertime fun quite like the Taste of the Danforth, a three day festival in Toronto's Greek Town this August 7 to 9, 2015 filled with food, dance and fun activities for both adults and kids alike.
From the much anticipated Krinos Taste of the Danforth (the largest street festival in Canada with approximately 1.6 million attendees annually) where foodies can get their food on, to a Sports Zone featuring activations and challenges with Toronto's professional sports teams including the Toronto Raptors and Toronto Maple Leafs, to FREE cultural dance performances, to the Toronto Star's Kids Fun Zone where kids can engage in active fun and get their face painted ... there is no shortage of excitement for people of all ages at this three day festival of fun.
The Krinos Taste of the Danforth will be celebrating its 22nd anniversary this year and promises to be even bigger and better than before, so be sure to come hungry and scream "OPA" if you drop your drink or plate as there will be a TON of different foods to choose from!
The 2015 roster of Festival Performances include celebrity stage performers such as Toronto-based Pop/R&B artist Julia Tynes, to Ariana Chris, a Greek-Canadian mezzo-soprano, to singer, songwriter & actress Carmen Corcoz, to name a few. You can even catch a group of local police service members collectively known as the "Coppertones" take a break from their duties to perform music that will get you twisting and turning, on top of professional brass and reed band HMCS York Navy Band, HAIR: The Musical, and the Jorge Miguel Flamenco Ensemble, a Spanish-Canadian Flamenco guitarist. Check out the full list of performers here.
Also don't miss your chance to earn a collective spot in the Guiness Book of World Records this year with the following two records that will be made:
These are just a few of many things that will be going on at the Taste of the Danforth, which combines diverse & exquisite food, culture and music with extraordinary philantropy -- all to the benefit of the local community.
The festival, which is run by the GreekTown on the Danforth BIA (a not-for-profit organization), donates ALL profits back to the city of Toronto, which over the years has donated more than $2 million to the Toronto East General Hospital as one of many examples. In 2013, money was donated to Prostate Cancer Canada as part of the Guiness World Record attempt for The World's Largest Zorba Dance, while proceeds from the 2014 challenge for The Largest Tug of War were donated to Athletics Ontario.
The GreekTown on the Danforth BIA is a shining example of how a BIA can unite local restaurateurs and retailers along a street to promote businesses while giving back to the local community. With 23% of attendees having travelled 40 km or more to attend the Taste of the Danforth and 47% having checked it as being their sole reason for visiting Toronto, there's truly no better time to be in the city than during this festival of epic proportions!
