Industry Investment in Diesel Truck Technology

By: Brenden Somerville   |   15 Apr 2014

Diesel is the future for heavy duty trucks, or at least, according to General Motors and Isuzu. The two leading automotive manufacturers have announced a development in their joint venture, investing another $50 million in diesel truck technology at a US based plant, totalling over $760 million in diesel engine development since 2000. Many of their competitors, including Chrysler and Nissan, have either begun similar investments in fuel for heavy duty diesel engines or are planning to do so in the near future.

What does this mean for diesel trucks and the Canadian market? Overall, consumers can expect a continued focus on better fuel economy, leading to technology-driven reductions in fuel costs overall, both for heavy duty trucks and pickup trucks. Diesel trucks require an immense focus on performance and reliability, and truck fleet owners can be confident that their diesel operations will continue to deliver great results.

As the winner of Canada’s top Hino dealership award, we stand behind the diesel technology of a Hino engine. In terms of Hino’s competition investing in diesel technology, this can only be a good thing for the entire industry, as more competition means even higher standards for fuel economy and hauling performance. The industry still has a lot of room to grow, and we strongly believe that Hino is the leader of the pack.
