Hybrid Energy Fuels Truck Refrigeration: Hino Unveils the First of Its Kind

By: Brenden Somerville   |   12 Mar 2014

Hino’s drive to produce efficient, market-leading technologies has been showcased, once again, in the newly unveiled truck refrigeration unit that is fueled by hybrid energy generated while a truck is cruising and breaking. While it’s not yet available here in Toronto, this innovative feature has been developed through the strategic partnership of Hino Trucks and Denso, a manufacturer focussed on alternative power technologies.

Quieter than a typical truck refrigeration unit, this hybrid power unit is incorporated directly into the truck’s power supply. Hino is always looking for ways to reduce costs for the end user, especially when it comes to unnecessary fuel costs, and this first-to-market feature exceeds Hino trucks fuel economy standards by beating Japan’s strict 2015 fuel standards by 5%. An electrical option is included for times when the engine is not running.

Our Hino customers in Toronto (and all across Canada) find that when they evaluate Hino truck prices with the competition, the cost-saving technology Hino invests in speaks for itself. Truck refrigeration costs can be hugely expensive, especially in the sweltering Toronto summer heat. Hino trucks are built specifically to lower your long term cost of truck ownership and maintenance, and this new hybrid technology is no exception. Our only question here at Somerville Hino is: when is it coming to Toronto?
